Suitability comes before a coating recommendation
A coating is applied over an existing roof assembly. Its success depends on that assembly and the requirements of the proposed coating system. Substrate condition, concealed moisture, adhesion, existing repairs and drainage concerns need review before the work is specified.
Not every leaking or deteriorated roof is a restoration candidate. A sound recommendation should explain why the existing roof is suitable and what work is needed before coating begins.

Preparation is part of the roofing scope
A coating proposal should identify the substrate, proposed products, cleaning and preparation, required testing, repairs, detail treatment and application scope. It should explain how unsuitable or wet areas will be handled rather than assuming the new surface resolves them.
Manufacturer guidance for coating systems can require adhesion testing and replacement of wet material. Use the instructions for the actual proposed assembly. GAF coating-system information illustrates why preparation and details are part of the system.
Coating, repair or replacement?
A localized problem may be appropriate for a defined repair. A roof that is otherwise suitable may warrant a restoration discussion. Widespread deterioration, unsuitable substrate or concealed conditions may make a different scope necessary.
Compare how each proposed option addresses the observed conditions and what limitations remain. Avoid treating a coating as a guaranteed alternative to every roof replacement. Roof repair and replacement planning explain those separate choices.
Warranty and performance claims
Ask for the specific written coating-system warranty and any contractor workmanship coverage. Confirm the requirements for issuance, maintenance, inspections and future repairs. Do not assume that a reflective surface guarantees a particular energy saving or that a long warranty term applies to every roof condition.
Palm's GAF commercial credential can be checked on our credentials page. The actual system and program determine available coverage.
